Day 139
Clear skies to start the day. It was a good surprise, as we could not have asked for a better day. The morning was cold as we packed our tent.
Early that morning, we celebrated at the 2,500 mile marker. It's a great accomplishment, and a surreal feeling, that in 150 miles, we will reach the finish line. On the way I heard a mountain goat in the bushes, and saw one in the far distance.
Glacier Peak Wilderness is definitely one of my favorite sections in Washington. This is just a beautiful place to be in. The grand landscape continued to amaze us. This is why we decided to do lower mileage per day, to truly soak in the beauty that we are a part of. The dense, pine trees in the valley down below made for a relaxed hiking. We had lunch at Kennedy Creek, where we then crossed a collapsed bridge, broken right in the middle, but still usable.
A long ascent, broken into two stages, brought us again on top of the mountain where it offered us an amazing view of the mountain range that is ahead of us. We are continuously amazed of the beauty that surrounds us. We made our way down to Milk Creek, where we saw the nicely patterned switchbacks that awaits us the next day. It was tent city at the campsite, as we came right before dark, where several people already made camp.
