Day 118

Dinner with Joe and Hollie at 10 Barrel Brewery

Yesterday, I arrived in bed and I had a little reunion with the Kiwi couple, Joe and Hollie. It's been about two months since I last saw them. We all stayed at Scout and Frodo and started at the Southern Terminus at the same time. We enjoyed a delicious meal and beer at the 10 Barrel Brewing Company. It was great catching up with good friends on the trail.

Lunch at my favorite brewery, Deschutes

Zero #3. I continued being a trail angel, and today it was for Joe and Hollie. After a good coffee at the Backporch Coffee Roasters to start the day, we headed to Trader Joe's to do some resupply. It was their first time to go there and they were excited. We then had lunch at my favorite brewery at the Deschutes Brewery and Pubic House. The food was great and the Black Butte beer was as great as I expected, although the Obsidian Stout was even better on tap.

We then took a 2.5 hr road trip to Breitenbush Lake campground where the PCT opens again, north of the fire. However, the dirt road going to Breitenbush Lake started to get rough, and we didn't wanna risk the little Kia Soul getting stuck, so they Joe and Hollie went ahead and hiked the rough 4 mile road to connect to the PCT.

On my way back, I could see the tremendous amount of smoke from the Whitewater Fire in the Jefferson Wilderness. An update on the fire closure the next day closed that particular road I dropped them off at. I came back to Bend exhausted that night. So far my zeroes has not resulted in me actually resting, but it feels great helping out my PCT friends.
