Day 71

We left Mammoth with great anticipation. But first, we needed to get back to the trailhead. We took the bus to the Mammoth Ski Resort and on the way we shared our experiences on the trail with skiers as well as mountain bikers. Everytime we share our adventure, it reminds me of how far we've come. It's still hard to believe that I've been on the trail since end of April, walking on foot, exploring nature in the most intimate way.

As we were walking on Reds Meadow Road, which was still closed for the winter season, crew workers were cutting some trees as part of clearing up the road to be ready for summer. As we were waiting, Caitlin (with her full pack with a bear canister and ice axe on her back) and Airplane Mode decided to do some yoga.

Back on the trail!

As we made our way to our campsite, we are greeted with the magnificent views of Mt. Ritter and Banner Peak.

And then we arrived at Thousand Island Lake, probably one of the most beautiful places on the John Muir Trail and the Sierra. I wasn't able to camp here last year on the JMT and I was very excited that we will camp here tonight. And since it is gonna be a clear sky, we decided to cowboy camp to enjoy the night time view.

Made it to Thousand Island Lakes!

The full moon made its appearance as we were eating dinner. We are just in high spirit tonight, as we are nice and fresh from Mammoth Lakes.
