Day 115
My Zpacks Duplex, my home away from home
My home away from home.
Hard to imagine I've lived in this tiny space for more than three months. This thin material has protected me from various elements on the trail. Sometimes I sleep better on trail. Perhaps it's the hiking all day. I don't really long for an actual bed.
Today was the big total eclipse in Oregon. I didn't have any special glasses, but I stopped on the top of the mountain and waited for it. I couldn't really tell with my bare eyes, and I noticed it got somewhat dark for a minute or so. The wind picked up and got a cold. A fire closure detour 17 miles before Crater Lake forced me to take a side trail and a road walk to Fort Klamath. Luckily I was able to get a hitch halfway of the 10 mile road walk, where I hitched all the way to Klamath Falls.
My second hitch was from Amy, who happens to be a nurse practitioner. My misadventure of the day led me to almost not finding a place to stay that night, where everything was booked because of the eclipse. Not even the local KOA had a space for my tent. I was fortunate that my luck turned around later that night, when a room opened up at the Motel 6, where I crashed I soon as I checked in, without even bother showering. What a long day it has been.
