Day 136
Morning view at Glacier Lake
After my extended zeros in Bend, my body somehow adjusted to where I'm more awake in the morning to do the big uphills. The trail brought us all the way down Glacier Lake last night and being the Pacific Crest Trail that it is, we hit the big switchback up that morning almost to the same elevation. It was a hot, sunny day, but the abundance of huckleberries on the trail made it pleasant.
While we were on the way up towards Stevens Pass, Blis started to have some kind of skin allergy. And there was no allergy cream available at the Stevens Pass Lodge. So after picking up our resupply boxes at the lodge, and disappointingly finding out that the restaurant is close, we hitched to Skykomish, since it was closer than hitching to Leavenworth, a much better town.
Change of plans then resulted in us spending the night in town. We were surprised to see that there were plenty of hikers at the Cascadia Inn. We filled our starving bellies with the usual, can't-go-wrong bacon cheeseburger for lunch, a late lunch. After getting cleaned up and getting settled for a bit, it was time for dinner. We then hit the local pub, where we joined White Rabbit and his friend. It was a great night after-all, despite going off our original plan of just passing thru Stevens Pass and keep going.
