Day 101
31.3 miles.
We didn't plan it, I didn't know we were was gonna hit it, but we did it! We finally did a 30 mile day! What a great feeling! I know it's just a number, but it does help. Just like when I hike 26 miles, just 2/10th more and it'll be a marathon. It's been a long time coming.
The day started with a beautiful sunrise, as the sun pierced through the dark clouds. We then descended in the thick forest where the green surroundings along with abundance of water cooled our morning hike. After lunch, it was a 6 mile stretch uphill where I challenged myself by doing 3 mph for two hours under the intense sun. The dark clouds returned and it gave us a quick shower by the time we hit the next stream. A quick dinner was necessitated and was followed by a snack at the next stop. A 9-mile dry section required us to dry camp. And as the hike went, we decided to keep going to the second campsite as the first one was occupied. I powered through going as fast as I can, reaching camp at 8:30pm. Little did I know that we finally broke the 30-mile marker we've been longing for. We congratulated each other as we set camp in the dark and instantly crashed in our tent. It was a fantastic day.
