Day 98

The cow pond, which looks beautiful with the reflection of the sky in the early morning

Admittedly, I only got less than an hour of sleep last night. We cowboy camped last night and with mosquitos hovering around, I must say I did not sleep well at all. We were soon back on our feet, moving north on the trail, in the moonlit darkness.

It was hard getting up that early but sometimes you have to do what you need to do. Thru-hiking is not easy, this is not your typical vacation. Sacrifices are sometimes made, and in this case, sleep. It was a tough day hiking when my brain wants to shut down but I had to keep your legs moving. On occasion I would close my eyes but the trail constantly changed, and the volcanic rocks that covers the trail was hard on my worn out shoes that has covered over 600 miles.

Gorgeous sunrise, but then it signifies that it will be hot soon

Done with the Hat Creek section and resting at the first water source

We walked in to Burney Mountain Guest Ranch to pick up our resupply boxes. We checked inside their little store and was surprised that it is actually stocked up to where one can actually do a full resupply there.

Initially our plan was to get our resupply boxes and keep going. However, we were all brain tired from the lack of sleep last night. Therefore, on to plan B. So we went to the town of Burney, where we got ourselves a motel room. Trailname decided to join in. We got cleaned up and did laundry as well.

I was falling asleep at dinner as I was eating a delicious Chinese food with Blis and Trailname. Needless to say, when we returned back to the motel, I was the first one to crash on the bed.
