Day 131
With the fire closure from White Pass to Snoqualmie Pass, we hitched to Packwood and spent the night at Casa Del Sol. We camped in the backyard and we had access to a beautiful tiny house.
Katie, a retired wildlife photographer, is a new trail angel who recently opened her lovely home because of the increased influx of hikers coming into Packwood caused by the Norse Peak Fire. We're very thankful of her generosity.
Katie's gorgeous tiny house
It has been a crazy year for us. The race to the finish has been trying to beat the fire. The mental challenge of finishing a thru hike has elevated even more, and for some, it's just a little too much. They said this year is the tough one because of the snow in the Sierra. No one could have predicted the overwhelming amount of fires that followed after. It started in Northern California, then Oregon, then Washington.
Staying at Blis' mom in Seattle
The 100 mile closure was a big detour and required either going East towards Yakima or West towards Seattle. We opted Seattle since Blis' mom lives there. So after Packwood, Blis called his wife Meg to come rescue us. Thank goodness.
Some Halo-Halo, a Filipino dessert. So good!
