Day 23

A long, waterless stretch with a big elevation gain required us waking up very early. The bright city lights can still be seen from the distant from where we camped.

Early start for the long ascent to Wrightwood

Looking right to the valley below

It was still a hard section as I moved foot one after the other, gradually making my way up the mountain.

Looking back where I've came from

Along the way, I met a few trail crews doing trail maintenance on the section that suffered from the forest burn last year. I thanked them for the hard work they do on a trail that we seemingly just pass without much thought.

It was such a relief reaching the top where big pine trees and cooler wind greeted us. And upon reaching the highway, we took of our pack and sat by the road, with our thumbs up, to hitch to Wrightwood.

Wrightwood, a small mountain town. Most of the hikers hang out right outside the market, where they also serve hot sandwiches and burritos.

Markets with outside seating area and umbrellas provide provide a place for us to hangout, like Jensens in Wrightwood.
