Day 95
August 1, 2017 @ 7am we arrived at the midpoint of the PCT, mile marker 1,325! It's a remarkable accomplishment for me. After more than three months on the trail, I'm finally halfway there. The glass is finally half full. I got teary eyed as I approached the little monument, and as I hugged Bliss congratulating each other for having made it this far.
From the Mexican border, we went through the hot, sandy desert of Southern California, the snowy and wet Sierra Nevada and once again, part of Northern California to get this point. It's been an epic journey, challenging all aspects of my body, mind and soul in every way. I can't wait to see the rest of Northern California, as well as what Oregon and Washington will bring all the way to Canada.
Caitlin and Blis kicking ass
After crossing the road that leads to Chester, we rested a bit at the picnic table by the road. We have now officially completed the entire Sierra Nevada and will soon enter the Cascade Range that begins at Lassen Volcanic National Park, where our resupply awaits. At the first water, by a pond, we met a lone hiker, Trailname, who we intermittently hiked at first.
That night, we camped right outside the border of Lassen, therefore not necessitating the need to carry a bear canister if we were have camped within the borders. And for the first time, I got to see a bear not far from our camp. It didn't seemed bothered by other presence, just grazing the woods, eating grass. Here, we also camped with another thru-hiker, Winter, from Switzerland. She left June 1st at the Mexican border, a full month after us, therefore she was moving quite fas. Just amazing!
