Day 49
It was a lovely, quiet night near the Kern River.
On the way to Kennedy Meadows
I arrived early morning at Kennedy Meadows General Store and before I can even come in or take a photo, a truck that shuttles hikers to Grumpy Bears showed up so I jumped in and filled my hungry belly with all you can eat pancakes. My hiker hunger wasn't quite ready as I didn't even finished the big pancake on the first plate. A hiker accepted the pancake challenge of eating a 3 ft diameter pancake and he was unsuccessful.
I then went back to the general store where I picked up my resupply consisting of an ice axe, microspikes, bear canister, and 9 days of food for a planned 7 days to get over Kearsarge Pass.
Excitement for completing the desert section and anxiety of the uncertainty the Sierra Nevada brings was in the air. But I was ready. After waiting out the heat, I headed out that same day. My pack was definitely heavy with all the extra gear and food. But I was very excited.
Blis, who soon to be in my trail family after this section.
Going in!!!
