Day 2
Hike out of Hauser Creek in the morning. It's already getting hot.
The desert heat can be horrendous, especially between noon and four in the afternoon. The first 700 miles of the PCT is considered the desert section and the are trees are quite a lifesaver.
A resting tree
Most people wake up before sunrise, take a nap during the hottest hours, then hike until sunset. I have yet to adjust to that schedule. For now I'm making do with my sun umbrella but the heat definitely slows me down. I'm so glad there are still plenty of water along the trail, thank goodness for the wet winter. And surprisingly, the desert is quite green.
Oak Shores Malt Shop not far off trail, oh yes!
Sun umbrellas are great portable shades
A little forest in the desert
Because even us hiker trash likes to be fashionable with our umbrellas
