Day 58
Zero Day 2 in Bishop.
Homemade breakfast was so good! Juniper, Indigo and I rode the colorful bikes to the local grocery store early morning and cooked breakfast. Later in the day, we went to the wine and yogurt shop to plan the next section of the Sierra, from Kearsarge Pass to Mammoth Lakes, with a side trip to VVR. Early hikers have opted to skip from this section but more and more are making it. A trip back to the grocery store to buy our food for the next section brought about a big dent in my wallet. Backpacking is not expensive once the initial investment in gear is done. But when you're thru hiking, and not working, food expenses while in town, and food for on trail, can accumulate pretty quick.
We are now ready for the next section. Our new group consists of Airplane Mode, Juniper, Happy Feet (me), Indigo and Bliss. We're all excited!
I'm so happy and thrilled to have a trail family for the Sierra!
Okay backtrack a little.
Blis approached me yesterday about forming a trail family for the Sierra as he is unhappy with his current trail family that seems to be unorganized. He approached me because he states I'm still a free agent and since I have done the John Muir Trail last year, and he also has done that trail last year as well, he believed that with both our experience we can go through the Sierra safely. Indigo and Caitlin were both staying in our bunk room and we threw the idea if they also wanna join a new trail family and they both agreed. We all agreed that safety was the main priority in this new formation and we were all willing to carry additional amount of food so that we don't need to rush it in the Sierra. Which is a smart plan.
