Day 108

Sunrise on a smoky morning

Long day to Seiad Valley.

Our desire to leave Seiad Valley early in the morning tomorrow necessitated doing more than 30 miles today. Usually I'm up for it but today I wasn't feeling it. My mind was feeling tired on this early day despite the beautiful morning, and I was basically just moving one foot forward and then the other. No amount of caffeine, sugar, calories and upbeat music helped me.

The afternoon was mostly downhill, crossing Grider Creek multiple times. It was still a tiring day. We got to Grider Creek campground, ate dinner, and then we continued walking to the highway. We desperately laid on the side of Hwy 96, or the Bigfoot Scenic Byway, hoping to hitch the next mile and a half, as it was already around 8 pm. Thankfully our prayers was answered so we hopped on the bed of a truck, and as soon as we arrived at the RV Park, Topo, from Austin, who we haven't seen since Mammoth Lakes, generously offered us a refreshing beer and ice cream. It was a great day at the end.
