Day 94
Trail life.
A glimpse of our journey in northern California.
Since so many people either skipped or flipped because of the snow in the Sierra, there are hardly any PCTers on the trail. We're hiking in a sort of bubble right now, seeing same people everyday or so, but pretty much we're the only ones on the trail. We wake up early in the morning, hike about two hours or so, hopefully where there is water, and keep going. The heat in northern California is comparable to the first 700 miles in the desert, but now we gotta do the miles. Siestas no more, we have to hike through the heat.
Taking a break with fellow hikers that we intermittently hiked
along with from the desert to the Sierra, and now northern California.
I can tell the heat is making an impact on our target daily mileage, but we just need to push it. Springs, streams, creeks and rivers are a delight to see, as soaking our bodies and clothes allows instant air conditioning in the outdoors. We are definitely more tired at the end of the day.
A hot meal for dinner, even after a long day of hiking under the sun, is always a welcome. My tent doors tend to be open to allow cool air through the night, and my quilt is opened like a blanket as I go to sleep, and I just tuck it under me later for when the early morning chills comes in. I've prepared mentally for this, and the desert section have trained my body pretty well, as I knew northern California was gonna be this hot.
