Day 122
The PCT passes through the historic Timberline Lodge
Timberline Lodge, a historic landmark in Mt. Hood, is probably the most beautiful building on the trail. It's very smokey in the area, with Mt. Hood barely visible amongst the thick smoke.
I thought by skipping to northern Oregon we've escaped hiking in smoke, but I was wrong. It's as worse here as it was in Crater Lake. Breathing is still tough on our hiker lungs.
We arrived at the lodge with enough time to engorge on the very much anticipated best breakfast on the trail. It was definitely delicious. The glacier freeze smoothie was the best!
After giving ourselves a self tour of the lodge, we then rested our full stomachs in the hexagonal shaped lobby, where a gigantic fireplace was the centerpiece. And then it was time to get our bodies movies.
It wasn't easy getting back on trail after resting for a few days, as my knees were a bit tight. Today was a beautiful hike as we went around Mt. Hood. We took the Paradise Loop trail and the views were amazing.
I've never been so close to this mountain. The surroundings are constantly changing as we made our way around Mt Hood; from exposed rocky areas, sand covered trail, colorful flowers covering the valleys, chocolate colored rivers, to moss covered forest.
Trailname giving up on trying to cross the creek without getting his shoes wet.
We decided to camp that night on an alternate route, at Ramona Falls. I'm glad we went this way as we rarely sea waterfalls close to the trail, let alone camp right by it. Ramona Falls is a series of small waterfalls along a 200ft wall. This is one of the most beautiful section of Oregon I've ever seen.
Gorgerous Ramona Falls
