Day 67

Happy 4th of July! It was a quiet day at VVR on this usually busy holiday. No fireworks allowed here unfortunately, which is understandable. It was a good place to nero. We had a chance to sleep and not have to pack right away and get moving, which is a nice break from our usual routine of leaving camp even before the sun makes it appearance. Some went for a swim at the lake.

Edison Lake is finally at normal levels this year because of the record level snow. We took the ferry, not the small boat I rode in last year, from the resort to the trailhead. Our group has now become six, as Isko, from Finland, had joined us.

A little boat ride for a change.

So many hikers today!

To the trailhead where we will connect with the PCT

We went up the switchbacks past Mono Creek, where a log saved us from crossing a dangerous water crossing. See video on courtesy of Isko Salminen.

Crossing Mono Creek

We then decided to set camp right after, saving the mist of the waterfall from Silver Pass Creek tomorrow.

Fourth of July with a campfire, dinner and s'mores, in the magnificent Sierra, under the moon lit sky, amongst good friends; nothing can beat this.
