Day 73
It was a quick overnight stay at Lee Vining and we did not get a lot of rest. It was absolutely a sleepless night camping on top of the hill. Our tents were falling over as the soft sand were unable to hold our tent stakes down.
We took the bus back to Tuolumne Meadows where we met up with Indigo's dad, Jack. He will be joining us on this section all the way to Sonora Pass.
Indigo, her dad Jack and Caitlin
Northern Yosemite is a new territory for me and I was excited. Though walking away from Cathedral Peak felt like I was leaving Yosemite. The crowd from Tioga Road disappeared quickly as we went further in.
A very serious group we have now
Well, of course not! This is still an amazing group.
Footbridge over Tuolumne River
The beginning of the trail shared a section of The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River and it was amazingly gorgeous. The immense flow of the waterfalls are intense.
A cascading waterfall right before Tuolumne Falls
Tuolumne Falls is flowing!
Crossing Tuolumne River again for the last time.
The bridge to Glen Aulin was damaged and is underwater.
On the way up to camp, mosquitos were becoming evident. I was jokingly telling Caitlin that she wasn't hiking fast enough. But it is annoying when they are buzzing by my ears as I was walking.
We ended up setting camp that night in a mosquito filled meadow. Our campfire did not even turn them away, as we put on our rain gear and mosquito head nets as we ate dinner. Caitlin just opted to eat in her tent. But we made the most of it and it was fun.
