Day 3
Joe and Holly from New Zealand, walking into our campsite at
Kitchen Creek early in the morning
It was a great night at Kitchen Creek. I had a bit of a late start though as it was a little tough to get out of a warm sleeping bag when it's cold outside. I wanted for the sun to shine on my tent before getting out.
Me trying using my trekking pole as a selfie stick. I think this was the first and last time I did it.
Nice to sit at a log while filtering water
Hikers gathering at precious shades in the afternoon
After a slow start during the hot day, I decided to hike til sunset. I also decided to skip the little town and kept hiking on the trail. With the sun going down, the temperature cooled down, and I was able to gain some miles.
Hiking during the golden hour was quite wonderful, as the scenery was just beautiful. Mount Laguna has offered the best view so far on the Pacific Crest Trail. I ended the night exhausted, and did not have enough water to have a hot meal. But it was all worth it. I also decided to cowboy camp, and the starry sky was nothing short of amazing.
Finally starting to cool down
I love the composition of the sun and the branches
And the lighting of this scene
Pure golden hour hiking is the best!
Sunsets in the desert just makes things glow
First time cowboy camping on the trail, and also trying to be discreet in this area. Shhhh...
Capturing the milky way is a bit tough with a small camera
Well, being discreet went out the window when a fellow PCT hiker pitched a huge, brightly lit tent. But it did make for a great photo with the Milky Way in the background
