Day 18, July 25, 2021

West Collegiate Mile Marker 31.3 to 52 (20.7 miles)

""

Today is an early, 6 am start for a hard section, Segment 3. Some SoBo's said to do it in one go as it is all exposed and no where to camp. Although after going through it, there are definitely some in the middle sections. Hard to plan though if bad weather comes unexpectedly since Guthook doesn't show any photos on the majority of the Colorado Trail.

This is a very beautiful section. My second favorite after the San Juans. Today was a tough 20 something miles, with 6 passes/high point. The first pass was a nice, big switchback from where I camped this morning. Yesterday afternoon, this was hidden in view by dark rainclouds and I am glad today is a beautiful sunny day.
